The Approach

There are a few core components that play a part in most rehab programs.

A detailed look at your movement and posture.

Movement assessment lays the foundation of all my coaching programmes, but it is especially important in rehabilitation personal training.

We start with an analysis of how well you use your core, including breathing and stability. This is the foundation of healthy, pain-free movement.

Next I look at the way you move in a range of simple exercises. This highlights any movement patterns that are causing or potentially will cause you pain or injuries.

Lastly I look at your joint mobility and overall flexibility to see if there are any restrictions causing you problems. This allows me to give you bespoke mobility exercises to work on, rather than just generic stretches.

If your core is dysfunctional, all movements will be.

When I see clients who have experienced back pain, joint issues or even those who just spend a lot of time sitting at work; their core muscles are often functioning incorrectly.

You’ll learn the right exercises and techniques to build a strong core to protect your back. Improving the way you sit, stand, walk, run and play sports.

We’ll work on exercises help you to breathe properly, decreasing tension in the neck and shoulders while strengthening your core. You’ll learn to properly engage the core muscles, keeping the spine in a healthy position. You’ll then learn to perform dynamic movements safely and efficiently. This is ideal if you are looking to return to demanding sports.

Learn how to move the way your body is designed to.

Our modern lifestyle often leads to us losing our ability to move well. This can lead to injury as we poorly load our joints, muscles and tendons.

You’ll learn to improve your movement ability, protecting your joints, improving your flexibility and teaching you to move more efficiently.

Gain the flexibility and control to move well and minimise your injury risk. Develop your balance and learn to properly use your muscles to keep you upright and stable. Work on your coordination and agility to help keep you free from injury whether in daily life or sports. Poorly performed exercise can do us more harm than good, so learn how to perform exercises effectively and safely.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS) - Certified Exercise Trainer
DNS is a rehabilitation method developed at The Prague School of Rehabilitation and Manual Medicine by Pavel Kolar. It looks at the natural in-built movement patterns we all develop as we first learn to move and uses these as a basis for movement assessment and movement training. Understanding the fundamental way in which we are designed to move allows me to help you to retrain movement patterns that are causing issues and injuries.

National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES)
NASM CES is a training system that assesses movement patterns and looks for compensation, asymmetry and instability. It then focuses on addressing and rebalancing muscles that are tight or weak and then integrating these back into functional movement patterns.

I have been sending my patients to train with Ben for almost 5 years. For me it is crucial that a trainer understands how to safely and effectively train someone who is just coming out of acute injury and Ben does exactly that. I have passed him patients with a variety of issues from hip replacements to lumbar disc extrusions and am always happy with the outcomes. If you are looking for an exceptional rehabilitative personal trainer either for yourself or to send your patients to; Ben is your man!

I had a discectomy on my lower back and a shoulder RSI condition, and recovery was slow, so my physio recommended sessions with Ben. I've never looked back (no pun intended). I feel much, much stronger. He has pushed me in all the important areas, but never pushed me too far, I listen to my body and he listens to me. It boosts your confidence knowing someone has your back (no pun intended again). I delayed seeing Ben, partly for money reasons but largely through fear - I didn't feel ready. My advice: please don't wait. It is the best money I have spent.

Dominika Bezakova Physio testimonial rehabilitation personal training

As a physiotherapist, I work with personal trainers closely. Collaboration with Ben was truly a great experience in my clinical practice. He is always very proactive, reliable and hugely experienced as a trainer and rehabilitation specialist. His understanding of functionality of human body is admirable and he is able to utilise his skills in effective rehabilitation and training. His special interest in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation makes Ben one of the few trainers in the world licensed with this highly effective technique, and that is one of the many reasons I referred large amount of my patients to Ben.

I started training with Ben for rehab after one of several hip and knee operations. Apart from helping me maintain my sanity in the City and helping me recover from 3 different surgical procedures, Ben has kept me on the straight and narrow: visceral fat down, lean muscle up – what’s not to like?! If you are on the fence about starting training, just do it! The quicker you start, the better you’ll feel and the longer you’ll live! I can guarantee that Ben will help you be stronger than your excuses.

I had the luck of meeting ben 4 years ago and I was very impressed by his deep and solid knowledge of the human body and rehabilitation. Soon after that, I sent one of my patients who suffered from a complicated herniated disc. After he spoke to me, Ben perfectly tailored the sessions to meet my patient's specific rehabilitation needs and the outcome was remarkable. From then on, I knew I could trust him. Every patient I have sent to train with him has come back happy as they find that every session is run in a relaxed yet supportive environment.

Michael client knee surgery testimonial rehabilitation personal training

I was referred to Ben by my physio in 2018 for focussed strengthening work after slow and faltering recovery from knee ligament and meniscus arthroscopy. Ben has been incredibly helpful in designing a bespoke series of dynamic core and leg exercises which has significantly improved the strength and reduced chronic pain in affected areas (sufficient to enable me to cycle up Mt Ventoux in June 2019). Ben’s unerring positive and encouraging attitude instil confidence and (combined with his informed interest in sports and current affairs, as well as immense patience with my intermittent exercise regime) make sessions both enjoyable and rewarding.

Nick Tzanos Chiropractor testimonial rehabilitation personal training

Ben is the first trainer I think of to refer my recovering patients to. I need to know that they will be well looked after and given effective exercises to get them back to full fitness. I know that I can work closely with him and he will implement my recommendations in his sessions. I recently sent him a patient with a disc protrusion who has made remarkable progress and is back playing rugby. He also helped one of my patients avoid the need for surgery for a chronic disc issue. Whether it’s my sport athletes or my desk athletes, Ben is the guy I send them to.

Erik client running injury testimonial rehabilitation personal training

After getting a running induced stress fracture in my left leg, the physiotherapist that treated me suggested I started training with Ben. He set out an effective training programme in twice-a-week sessions, not just targeting my specific weakness - which had caused my injury in the first place - but also building muscle. Besides the physical benefits of the sessions, they were also a welcome relief from the daily work-related pressures. I would highly recommend training with Ben - if you’re in doubt just give it a go and I am sure you will not regret it.

dan client desk based postural problems testimonial rehabilitation personal training

When Ben was first recommended to me it was his expertise in posture and corrective exercise that I was most keen to explore to help me eliminate issues in my posture while improving overall fitness. We’ve achieved that and more! I continue to be grateful and impressed with his deep knowledge and enthusiasm that has not only enabled me to correct the imbalances that were causing me discomfort but has also led to significant improvements in all areas of my strength and fitness.

Daniel Bradley - Client (Desk-related postural issues)

holly client desk based knee problem testimonial rehabilitation personal training

Ben designed a training programme that has improved my upper body strength. Better technique and muscle-specific exercises also helped me to overcome what was a long-term knee problem. Ben’s patience and dedication is second to none: I am not a natural athlete, but he finds a way of enabling me to learn at my own pace – pushing me when I need it and modifying something when it is too much.
