Ben Blake Davies

I started my conventional fitness career in January 2012, coming from a background of Parkour coaching and performance. Having suffered from disc issues I knew rehabilitation and corrective exercise would be a cornerstone to my training philosophy.

After two and a half years working at a busy commercial gym, I moved to join Elevate LDN, a personal training studio within a multidisciplinary healthcare clinic. With the gym and clinic both in London's Square Mile, I spent years building a better understanding of the needs of city professionals.

With my DNS rehabilitation and NASM corrective exercise qualifications I work alongside chiropractors, physiotherapist and osteopaths helping their patients get back to full fitness. This has allowed me to hone my craft training individuals who were coming back from a wide variety of issues from simple aches and pains to complex spinal surgery.

In 2017 I designed the Executive Personal Training programme, based on everything I had learned over the past 6 years. I teamed up with experts in performance assessment to create a complete package to help executives perform at their best and protect their health from the stresses of the city.

Having moved to Sussex in 2016 I added golf to my extensive list of sports to get frustrated at while trying to master. With a lot of my city clients being golfers I had often been tailoring sessions throughout my career to help their performance.

From 2019 to 2020 I decided to pursue this further getting three golf-specific qualifications. This lead to me joining Brighton & Hove Golf Club as their golf fitness trainer in October 2020.

I now split my time between London and Brighton & Hove delivering specialised personal training sessions focused on rehabilitation, golf-fitness and executive health.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS) - Certified Exercise Trainer
DNS is a rehabilitation method developed at The Prague School of Rehabilitation and Manual Medicine by Pavel Kolar. It looks at the natural in-built movement patterns we all develop as we first learn to move and uses these as a basis for movement assessment and movement training. Understanding the fundamental way in which we are designed to move allows me to help you to retrain movement patterns that are causing issues and injuries.

Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified
TPI Level 1 Certification is designed to help evaluate a golfer for physical limitations which can inhibit swing efficiency. This allows me to identify the key areas that can be holding a golfer back from playing at their best. This information is then used to create the framework of a bespoke golf training programme.

Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) - Fitness Level 2 Certified (F2)
TPI Fitness Level 2 deals with assessing a golfer's strength and power and creating golf specific, tailored fitness programmes. This enables me to find the elements of your fitness that are holding you back. This enables me to build an exercise plan that is entirely bespoke to you and allows you to develop the areas of your fitness that will have the greatest effect on your golf.

Precision Nutrition (PN) Level 1 Certified Coach
Precision Nutrition focuses on developing the right habits to help you achieve your goals rather than on counting calories and restricting what you can eat. Finding solutions that fit in to your lifestyle allows you to make sustainable changes to your nutritional habits that become simple to maintain.

National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES)
NASM CES is a training system that assesses movement patterns and looks for compensation, asymmetry and instability. It then focuses on addressing and rebalancing muscles that are tight or weak and then integrating these back into functional movement patterns.

National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Golf Fitness Specialist (GFS)
NASM GFS applies the principles of the Optimal Performance Training (OPT) model to golf. It brings in elements of movement assessment and performance training technique to help develop and better golf athlete.

Rehab

Whatever your goal, the first port of call is to ensure you have good mobility, spine and joint stability and be able to create controlled movement. This is to help reduce injury risk and give you a strong foundation on which to build your fitness.

Whether you are recovering from injury or deskbound discomfort, an adage that I live by is "Move well, then move often."

Exec

I use the latest technology to get an exact baseline of your metabolic and cardiovascular health plus your exact fat and muscle composition. This allows me to create a programme bespoke to you.

With your training and nutrition coaching based on your own data, you can train smarter not just harder.

Golf

As a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness Specialist, I assess my clients' strength, power and mobility against the same criteria as professional golfers.

This means every part of the programme I create is designed to translate into longer drives, better swing consistency and reduced injury risk.

I have been sending my patients to train with Ben for almost 5 years. For me it is crucial that a trainer understands how to safely and effectively train someone who is just coming out of acute injury and Ben does exactly that. I have passed him patients with a variety of issues from hip replacements to lumbar disc extrusions and am always happy with the outcomes. If you are looking for an exceptional rehabilitative personal trainer either for yourself or to send your patients to; Ben is your man!

I had a discectomy on my lower back and a shoulder RSI condition, and recovery was slow, so my physio recommended sessions with Ben. I've never looked back (no pun intended). I feel much, much stronger. He has pushed me in all the important areas, but never pushed me too far, I listen to my body and he listens to me. It boosts your confidence knowing someone has your back (no pun intended again). I delayed seeing Ben, partly for money reasons but largely through fear - I didn't feel ready. My advice: please don't wait. It is the best money I have spent.

Dominika Bezakova Physio testimonial rehabilitation personal training

As a physiotherapist, I work with personal trainers closely. Collaboration with Ben was truly a great experience in my clinical practice. He is always very proactive, reliable and hugely experienced as a trainer and rehabilitation specialist. His understanding of functionality of human body is admirable and he is able to utilise his skills in effective rehabilitation and training. His special interest in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation makes Ben one of the few trainers in the world licensed with this highly effective technique, and that is one of the many reasons I referred large amount of my patients to Ben.

Dominika Bezakova – Physio on World Surf League

rob client hip knee surgery testimonial rehabilitation personal training

I started training with Ben for rehab after one of several hip and knee operations. Apart from helping me maintain my sanity in the City and helping me recover from 3 different surgical procedures, Ben has kept me on the straight and narrow: visceral fat down, lean muscle up – what’s not to like?! If you are on the fence about starting training, just do it! The quicker you start, the better you’ll feel and the longer you’ll live! I can guarantee that Ben will help you be stronger than your excuses.

I had the luck of meeting ben 4 years ago and I was very impressed by his deep and solid knowledge of the human body and rehabilitation. Soon after that, I sent one of my patients who suffered from a complicated herniated disc. After he spoke to me, Ben perfectly tailored the sessions to meet my patient's specific rehabilitation needs and the outcome was remarkable. From then on, I knew I could trust him. Every patient I have sent to train with him has come back happy as they find that every session is run in a relaxed yet supportive environment.

Michael client knee surgery testimonial rehabilitation personal training

I was referred to Ben by my physio in 2018 for focussed strengthening work after slow and faltering recovery from knee ligament and meniscus arthroscopy. Ben has been incredibly helpful in designing a bespoke series of dynamic core and leg exercises which has significantly improved the strength and reduced chronic pain in affected areas (sufficient to enable me to cycle up Mt Ventoux in June 2019). Ben’s unerring positive and encouraging attitude instil confidence and (combined with his informed interest in sports and current affairs, as well as immense patience with my intermittent exercise regime) make sessions both enjoyable and rewarding.

Nick Tzanos Chiropractor testimonial rehabilitation personal training

Ben is the first trainer I think of to refer my recovering patients to. I need to know that they will be well looked after and given effective exercises to get them back to full fitness. I know that I can work closely with him and he will implement my recommendations in his sessions. I recently sent him a patient with a disc protrusion who has made remarkable progress and is back playing rugby. He also helped one of my patients avoid the need for surgery for a chronic disc issue. Whether it’s my sport athletes or my desk athletes, Ben is the guy I send them to.

Erik client running injury testimonial rehabilitation personal training

After getting a running induced stress fracture in my left leg, the physiotherapist that treated me suggested I started training with Ben. He set out an effective training programme in twice-a-week sessions, not just targeting my specific weakness - which had caused my injury in the first place - but also building muscle. Besides the physical benefits of the sessions, they were also a welcome relief from the daily work-related pressures. I would highly recommend training with Ben - if you’re in doubt just give it a go and I am sure you will not regret it.

dan client desk based postural problems testimonial rehabilitation personal training

When Ben was first recommended to me it was his expertise in posture and corrective exercise that I was most keen to explore to help me eliminate issues in my posture while improving overall fitness. We’ve achieved that and more! I continue to be grateful and impressed with his deep knowledge and enthusiasm that has not only enabled me to correct the imbalances that were causing me discomfort but has also led to significant improvements in all areas of my strength and fitness.

Daniel Bradley - Client (Desk-related postural issues)

holly client desk based knee problem testimonial rehabilitation personal training

Ben designed a training programme that has improved my upper body strength. Better technique and muscle-specific exercises also helped me to overcome what was a long-term knee problem. Ben’s patience and dedication is second to none: I am not a natural athlete, but he finds a way of enabling me to learn at my own pace – pushing me when I need it and modifying something when it is too much.

Holly Fox - Client (Desk-related knee problem)

I started training with Ben at the beginning of January, when everyone thinks they need to do something! The big difference is that, 6 months later, I haven’t quit! That is down to Ben and his training style. He concentrated on building up the parts of me that were likely to fail first, ensuring I was strong enough to take on the training workload. I saw real improvements quickly and now, 6 months later, the change in my shape is noticeable. I’m stronger, fitter and feel so much more engaged with life.

Andy Brown – CFO

Ben was my personal trainer for a couple of years until I moved away from London. If I could have taken him with me, I would have. I needed someone to help me with my posture, flexibility and strength. Ben put together a fun but demanding programme that responded to my specific needs and adjusted it regularly to maintain progress and interest. He knows a huge amount about fitness and nutrition and took a real interest in my health and wellbeing, providing good advice and encouragement. His optimism and wacky sense of humour sustained me through many an early morning workout. I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Gerard Sanders - General Counsel

I relocated to London after six years in New York where I'd had a personal trainer who had helped me start regaining core strength and flexibility after a herniated disc. I was very keen to progress, but also particular to find someone who was appropriately qualified and enthusiastic to help. I found and chose Ben after a thorough search. I felt from the outset that I'd landed on my feet. Ben has been excellent, helping with conditioning, strength as well as nutrition all of which has made a real difference. I feel stronger, healthier and all in all, better. If you are in any doubt, my advice is trust him and let him help; you won't regret it.

Bruce McAra - Managing Director

Ben is incredibly knowledgeable and he is a fun person to work with. He draws his approach from his multi discipline knowledge and brings different skills to each section. He plans some amazing workouts which emphasise balance, strength and power. He also complements training with nutritional support. Working in the City I needed a trainer who has a flexible approach to timing and changing schedules.
